Discrimination surrounding maternity leave often crops up among news headlines. Whether it is ousting an employee while on parental leave or firing a staff member for taking time off during their pregnancy, HR has often come under fire for its practices around maternity leave.
Recently, one employee on Mumsnet questioned whether she had been discriminated against after she found out she wasn’t invited to her work Christmas party while she was on maternity leave.
User Cosmogirl86 revealed that she was only made aware that her employer was having a Christmas party after a friend in the office told her.
She wrote: “I have been on maternity since June and found out last week that the Christmas party has been arranged and I've neither been notified or invited. I only found out when a friend in the office told me as we chatting, she assumed I'd been asked (sic).”
