Should female employees wear 'period badges'?

Periods at work have long been considered a taboo subject, with women feeling uncomfortable discussing it, as a recent DPG report of 2,000 menstruators found that 46% believed there is a noticeable stigma around the issue within the organisation they work for.

While more employers are putting initiatives in place to stamp out the stigma, one business has been criticised for its attempts.

A Japanese department store, which is known for selling products related to sexual and menstrual health, has asked its female employees to wear badges that let people know they are on their period, reported Sky News.

The badges, which are not compulsory, feature a cartoon character called Seiri Chan, a name that loosely translates to 'Miss Period' and were designed to help encourage staff and customers to bond at the store while also tackling the stigma of periods at work.
