Office romances have always been a tricky subject for employers to contend with.
Whether these issues are viewed from a favouritism perspective, the potential of conflicts of interest arising, sexual harassment or discrimination allegations if the affection is unwarranted or non-consensual; office romances can cause serious problems for businesses.

Last month, the ousting of the former McDonald’s CEO Steve Easterbrook hit headlines after it was found that he was having a consensual relationship with an employee which ‘violated company policy’.
In an email to employees at the time, Easterbrook explained: “Given the values of the company, I agree with the Board that it is time for me to move on.”
