A few weeks ago, HR Grapevine reported on the much-awaited release of John Lewis’ annual festive advert – this year featuring Edgar the excitable dragon – and the key HR takeaways.
Viewers watched as the small dragon unintentionally melted part of an ice-skating rink and set fire to the community’s prized Christmas tree, though the advert does end on a high as Edgar is brought back into the community and put his fire-breathing powers to good use.
The key takeaways HR Grapevine picked up on were the importance of development and ‘soft skills’ for good leadership, as well as the need to let employees bring their whole selves to work.
Since the release of this article, we sat down with Yulia O’Mahony, Head of D&I and Wellbeing at John Lewis Partnership at the This Can Happen conference last week to find out her HR teachings from the latest festive advert.
