Worker who had 'nightmares about work' driven to suicide

The healthcare sector is well-known for having a chaotic working environment with high stress levels and one with severe time constraints.

However, like all workplaces, hospitals have a duty of care for their employees and as such, doctors and nurses have a right to a decent work-life balance.

Yet in many cases, such as that of Nurse Leona Goddard, the pressures and constraints of the job led to a break down in personal life.

Goddard, who had worked as a nurse for a number of years and regularly undertook 12-hour shifts at a hospital, is currently the subject of an inquest after taking her own life. She said that the stress and demands of her role left her unable to form any kind of social or family life.
