For those shoppers trawling up London's famous Oxford Street to buy festive gifts, strutting into a store with a festive banger on the sound system creates a positive shopping experience.
But, for those employees working the duration of the Christmas period, a seasonal playlist blasting out of the surround-sound speaker system on repeat is likely to be their worst nightmare – and may well hinder employee satisfaction and engagement.
To keep their staff content and happy over Christmas, directors at a gin shop in York have banned cheesy festive songs.
As a result, Mariah Carey’s All I Want For Christmas Is You and Slade’s Merry Xmas Everybody will not be making an appearance on the shop floor this year after recognising that having to listen to this music constantly could ruin Christmas for their staff and make them dread going into work – The Guardian reported.
