McDonald's CEO ousted for dating employee

Office romances have always been a tricky subject for business leaders to deal with.

Whether this is from a favouritism perspective, potential conflicts of interest arising if sensitive information gets into the wrong hands or sexual harassment or discrimination perspective if the relationship is non-consensual; office relationships can cause serious ethical problems for leaders.

Despite the nightmare it can cause for leaders, 2019 Adzuna research demonstrated that so many employees want or are actively engaging in a relationship with a colleague. The research revealed that 75% were open to the possibility of a work-fuelled relationship, with 41% fantasising about doing so.

The most recent case to hit headlines was McDonald’s CEO, Steve Easterbrook, who was sacked after having a consensual relationship with one of his employees – The Mirror reported.
