BBC | Gary Lineker at centre of hourly pay row

Events have once again come to a head at the BBC over the corporation’s pay inequality – this time, concerning a demand by presenter Clare Balding over the pay of TV personality Gary Lineker.

Balding has reportedly demanded that the network reveal how much ex-footballer Lineker is paid per hour, according to The Times.  

The presenter called for “complete transparency” over the money that male presenters were paid in comparison to their female counterparts, adding that “nobody knows how many days Gary Lineker does for his enormous salary”.

Balding made the comments whilst conducting a talk at Benenden School in Kent, where she insisted that the “the only way” for gender pay equality at the corporation “is with transparency”. She added: “And I mean complete transparency of what people are paid for the days they work.”
