Boss loses it over 'gross misconduct' Facebook post

At work, there are several valid reasons that may warrant an employee being fired. Whether this is because an employee has stolen company property, or they have been caught in possession of illegal substances at work, HR has a right to discipline and sack employees if they do not comply with company policy or procedure.

One action that has increasingly become a sackable offence is employees’ use of social media, regardless of whether it is on company time on not.

The most recent case to hit headlines was about an employee who posted what he thought was a comical meme on Facebook and was allegedly fired as a result.

The employee posted a meme on his personal Facebook account featuring Sesame Street’s Elmo on the toilet during ‘company time’ which included the words “Boss makes a dollar, I make a dime. That’s why I poop, on company time” – The Daily Mail reported.
