Every employee has the right to be treated fairly and with respect at work.

While this is a moral obligation of the employer it is also a legal obligation too. Under the Equality Act 2010, it is unlawful to discriminate against employees because of their race. In the UK, this also includes nationality, ethnicity and national origin.

Yet, the Mercedes Formula 1 team has recently dismissed four employees over the “racist bullying” of a Muslim colleague which breached the firm’s diversity regulations – the Independent reports.

One colleague was allegedly called a “Muslim terrorist f***” and a poll was reportedly launched in the staff room during Ramadan where employees estimated how long it would take the employee to “break” the fasting period, according to The Sun.
