A study conducted by think-tank the Resolution Foundation over the course of three years has revealed that UK workplaces are flouting the law, with illegal practices becoming ‘far too common’.
According to the report, which was released to the public this week, a shocking one in 20 workers has no access to paid holiday leave, regardless of their legal right to 5.6 weeks of paid holiday per year. One in 10 also reported regularly receiving no payslip, despite this also being required as a basic practice for all workplaces within the UK.
The report shared further details on the nature of such illegal activities, stating that workers over the age of 65 are most likely to not receive paid holidays, whilst workers aged 25 and under are twice as likely to be underpaid the minimum wage than any other age group.

With regards to which industries are the worst offenders, hotels and restaurants were found to be the most prolific whereas companies employing fewer than 25 full-time staff members are most likely to not provide payslips and paid leave.
