Joining a company and embarking on a new career offers a number of benefits, as workers find an industry they can excel in and share their knowledge and expertise.
This may be true for a number of employees, however, research carried out by Randstad in 2018 with over 700 respondents found that 58% would leave their job because their company didn’t offer enough growth opportunities.
Statistics such as Randstad’s may suggest reasons that many Millennials aren’t satisfied with their job and are taking a drastic measure to start a ‘minternship’. The phrase coined by the BBC refers to professionals purposely ‘returning themselves to the bottom of the career ladder’.
According to Deloitte’s 2019 global survey of more than 13,000 people, 49% of Millennials will quit their jobs in the next two years. As an alternative to their jobs, many have started to regard internships as a viable option to switch up their careers or profession before it becomes too late.
