An inquest heard that an ‘outstanding’ Tesco employee, who had been battling with mental health issues that were heightened by a previous work-related experience, killed himself after being fired – The Sun reported.
According to a family member, Shaun Winstanley, who was previously held at gun point by robbers, struggled to overcome the mental trauma of the incident and was initially denied time off after the incident and was disciplined for missing shifts. However, the report stated that he was offered counselling sessions.
Earlier this year, Winstanley was dismissed on the grounds of “unreasonable behaviour” for trying to chase down a separate thief. The employee’s intentions to stop a crime meant that his till was left unmanned and this was said to have put himself and others in danger – The Mirror reported. His mental health was said to have deteriorated after he was sacked.
