Should candidates reveal if they've been fired?

There are a number of reasons why candidates may move on to pastures new – they may be seeking a pay rise, looking to take on more responsibilities or simply seeking a brand new role.

However, if they have faced the chop and got fired, should candidates be open and honest about it?

Being fired from a role can be an incredibly humiliating process and can take a long time to repair the scars of being ousted from a company. On the other hand, being put through this immense situation can ultimately improve someone for the better as the sacking may not have been due to their own wrongdoing.

Of course, if a jobseeker is open and honest about how they left their previous company if they were fired, alarm bells may start to ring for a recruiter. While this may be the case, it is important that recruiters listen to the candidate’s side of the story before making any snap judgements.
