An accountant who pinched £295,000 from his employer and squandered £150,000 on a cocaine and champagne-induced binge with escorts has only been ordered to pay back just one pound – The Sun reports.
Darren Carvill stole the money from the car servicing firm Mr Clutch because he claimed that he was suffering from low self-esteem. It was reported he was called 'geeky' at work and was bullied.
After realising that bosses were on to his fraudulent activity, he enjoyed a “weekend of madness” and wanted to “go out with a bang”.
Barrister James Ross told the court that the “weekend of madness” was a result of suffering from low self-esteem.
