Young professionals demand remote working

How do you feel about the traditional office space? Is it a good place to be productive, or do you feel like it’s holding you back from achieving your best work?

There’s no doubt that over the years, offices have developed to become much more agile environments. Bosses have inevitably acknowledged that employee wellbeing is directly related to productivity, and therefore introducing quieter spaces or even something as simple as sofas can make a significant difference. Even smaller companies are acknowledging the benefits of dividing space to account for the varying needs of its staff, yet new data by Generation Flex has found that 80% of Millennials no longer want to work in the traditional office space.

While it may not seem like a major barrier in sourcing younger talent, all 80% of respondents say that being shackled to an office desk actively affects their decision when choosing a new job, whilst 67% of respondents added that they’d leave their job for a more flexible schedule.

However, despite the growing trend of working in a freelance capacity remotely, businesses are weary of utilising people outside of the traditional office; 56% of businesses state that they wouldn’t hire a freelance remote worker, whilst only one fifth are even ‘open’ to the concept.
