Britain’s prosperous gig economy has more than doubled to 4.7million workers over the last three years, according to a study from the TUC and academics at the University of Hertfordshire.
The Guardian reports that, currently, as many as one in ten working age adults are now using gig economy platforms – companies such as Uber and Airbnb – which is up from one in 20 according to 2016 reports.
The report unearthed how digital platforms like Deliveroo and Uber have sparked transformation in the working world but warns that workers’ rights have not maintained pace.
“The world of work is changing fast and working people don’t have the protection they need."
