What your boss REALLY thinks about you

Whilst ultimately job performance is the key factor in your career progression, a good boss will always keep their eyes and ears open to the actions of their staff to ascertain who has the abilities needed to build a successful career, and who should ultimately remain where they are.

And whilst professionally, they should judge you by such merits alone, your boss has an opinion of you that they will never share. Sure, you may be able to gleam based on your interactions if they like you or not, but there are greater insights into their thoughts that you can utilise to truly get to grips with how you come across.

Firstly, your biggest evaluation will be motivated by your environment and peers. By comparing you to those around you, your boss will be able to gauge your productivity, your teambuilding skills and, almost just as importantly, if you keep your head down and get work done, or if you cause issues and disrupt others.

A worker who looks to excel and prove themselves will always be preferred over a professional who is happy to remain in a comfortable position. Your boss is looking to see if you apply for promotions, take on bigger tasks and accept harder clients; building an impressive portfolio of work is a long game that requires leadership qualities – this is something every leader knows, and sees.
