Regardless of how massive London feels, it’s sometimes easy to forget that England is a small country. From the South East, the coast is never more than a 70-minute drive away, and it’s genuinely feasible to drive from one major city to another for a meeting without the need to even stop for lunch.
As such, professionals in America or Australia may well laugh when we complain about commute times, yet for many, the prospect of taking a job with a longer commuting prospects may seriously dissuade them from accepting the position.
So, for a small country with some major cities, what is the average commute that you should expect to have to experience without too much dissonance? For some, anything over 20 minutes may seem unreasonable. However, a new survey by Office Space In Town has confirmed that for one third of the workforce, over 90 minutes per day is standard.

The survey polled more than 1,000 UK workers on how the time they spend in traffic or on a train impacted them at work and in their home life; the research revealed that among the top commuting complaints were lengthy journeys (32%), overcrowding on public transport (27%) and frequent cancellations (26%).
