The news that ITV has axed The Jeremy Kyle Show following the death of a guest on the programme has sparked mixed debates on social media – BBC reports.
Damian Collins MP, Chair of the Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee said that ITV made the right decisions. He added: "However, that should not be the end of the matter. There needs to be an independent review of the duty of care TV companies have to participants in reality TV shows."
Whilst the programme's guests aren’t employees of the show, there is still a duty of care to make sure that they receive the appropriate level of support on the show. Following this incident, viewers have started to question the adequacy of support mechanisms.
