Employee sacked for alleged 'racial slur' sues employer

A former Chief Meteorologist who worked at NBC who was sacked earlier this year for alleged racial slurs during a live broadcast has now filed a lawsuit against his former employer – Fox News reports.

Earlier this year, the New York Post reported that Jeremy Kappell was describing a scene which showed Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Park when he allegedly used the offensive phrase.

Viewers and local officials claimed that Kappell said: “Martin Luther C-n King Jr.” In a video statement released on Facebook, he responded to claims: “If you watch me regularly, you know that I tend to contain a lot of information in my weather cast which forces me to speak fast and unfortunately I spoke a little too fast when I was referencing Dr Martin Luther King Jr.

“So fast to the point where I jumbled a couple of words. Now, in my mind I knew I had mis-pronounced but there was no malice, there was nothing… I had no idea the way that it came across to many people.”
