C-Suite | £750m-bonus CEO gives it all to charity

The founder of smartphone company Xiaomi has been awarded a £750million bonus for his commitment to the brand, however, the executive has since pledged to hand over the sum to charity.

The company gave its founder Lei Jun 639.6million shares, despite a disappointing float on the Hong Kong market last year. Even though the firm’s share price dipped, Xiaomi wanted ‘to reward Lei Jun for his contribution to the company’ in 2018, reported The Guardian.

He was also awarded share options in Xiaomi Finance, which lends to the company’s customers, worth £11.7million.

Following the generous sum, Xiaomi said: “To the knowledge of the company, upon receipt of the relevant shares, Lei Jun promised to donate all the relevant shares after deducting any tax payable for charitable purposes.”
