Employer tried to 'cut' recruiter out the hiring process

Recruitment specialists have long been a popular method for candidates seeking a job; they offer clear advice to job hopefuls, they find specific roles of interest and they can often negotiate with employers on salary and work benefits on a candidate’s behalf.

However, could the traditional recruiter be getting in the way of employers? This question comes following a Reddit thread in which a candidate was asked by an employer to ‘cut out the recruiter middleman’.

The anonymous candidate revealed that the recruiter will be in charge of the payroll and would provide the benefits, however, the employer urged the jobseeker to work directly for him.   

They wrote: “I have no clue whether it'd actually be better to work under him or as a W-2 for the recruiting firm.
