Highstreet fashion brand Superdry is calling on its shareholders to reject a bid by co-founder Julian Dunkerton to regain his seat on the brand’s Board of Directors, which it says would be “extremely damaging”.
The former CEO, who founded the firm in 2003 with business partner James Holder, demanded that the Board held a meeting in London on 2 April to discuss its future, following a period of instability in which it lost a significant market share. Superdry has since posted profit warnings.
Dunkerton abruptly stepped down from his role as CEO in 2018, and donated shares to the value of £1.2million to charity Blue Marine Foundation, resulting in a valuation drop of £100million.
“I am immensely proud of everything achieved at Superdry over the past 15 years,” Dunkerton told The Guardian at the time. “With other demands on my time, it is the right point for me to transition my focus and responsibilities.”
