New research conducted by Adzuna has revealed that the number of advertised vacancies has fallen by 4.5% over the past month and a significant 10.7% over the past six months.
Whilst the UK’s jobs market has seen a period of candidate-driven recruitment, January’s decline in open positions could well signal a key shift in trends. This is compounded by the lack of a historic seasonal boost to vacancies within the first three months of the year.
As the month-on-month rate of decline is decreasing, January’s fall in numbers represents an average loss of around 48,000 vacancies compared to previous months.
Despite the negative impact of the decline, the report also highlighted some positive news for UK employees; salaries throughout the country have seen a 4.1% increase over the past 12 months, as well as a 1.5% monthly increase since the start of the year.
