Microchip technology is far from new; if you work in a large office space, there’s a good chance that you utilise a microchip to enter and exit via your employee identity card.
We also implant microchips in our pets - but how ethical would it be to implant a microchip in a human?
Surprisingly, this is something that is already being rolled out within certain companies in the UK. Hampshire-based tech firm BioTeq claims to have already implanted chips in over 150 employees throughout Britain and whilst the practice sounds questionable, it is indeed entirely legal if the employee consents.
Whilst it may appear that these small chips - which are inserted into the skin between the forefinger and thumb - enable employers to constantly monitor their employees, BioTeq claims that the key benefit is actually security. Founder of Biohax and former professional body piercer Jowan Österlund told The Telegraph:
