Fyre Fest doc is a lesson in bad leadership for HR

In the summer of 2017, the internet became awash with reports of guest experiences at the now infamous Fyre Festival.

The event, which was billed as a high-end ‘luxury music festival’ to be held in the Bahamas, drew customers in with a high-profile visibility campaign promising music from world-renowned talent, beach escapades with some of the internet’s biggest celebrities and a barrage of personal pampering – including a full menu of the finest cuisine the world has to offer.

Little did the public know that beneath its slick branding and big promises, the event, the company and the core idea of the event was failing at a spectacular level.

Fast-forward to 2019 and online streaming service Netflix re-ignites the media furore around the anti-event with a deeply personal insight into the events that led to the festival’s failure and the frankly shocking actions of its founder Billy McFarland – who is now facing six years of imprisonment and $26million in restitution.
