Employees forced to choose own underperformance punishments

Under-performing employees at a Californian retail store have been forced to endure punishments such as “drinking soap” and “eating dog food” for failing to upsell certain products to customers.

An anonymous user writes on Reddit.com that his girlfriend – who is an employee at the undisclosed Californian store – often sees colleagues punished for “[not asking] customers if they want to buy a particular item”.

However, the source reveals that employees choose their own form of punishment from a "punishment board" which can include forfeits such as cleaning toilets and moving heavy objects. The severity of these punishments has escalated in some of the examples.

“Other punishments include doing push-ups, co-workers being allowed to hit you with a stick, drinking soap, eating dog food, and sucking on undesirable objects that are not meant for human consumption,” the source continues.
