More than 30% of UK employees admit to coasting through their careers, with the biggest reason attributed to work-related unhappiness.
The ‘Why BWell’ report - compiled by Barnett Waddingham - found that ‘coasting’ employees collectively equate to more than ten million of the UK workforce. This news comes as the UK scrambles to stave off a productivity crisis.
A ‘coaster’ describes an employee with low ambition and productivity and does the minimum workload in order to keep their position.
When investigating the reasons for employees who ‘coast’, the study found that only around a third of workers are happy at work.
