Under-performing employees forced to eat bugs and drink 'urine'

Under-performing staff at a Chinese company have been forced to drink ‘urine’ and eat cockroaches by management as punishment for not meeting sales targets – The Telegraph reports.

These shocking penalties were filmed at the company's premises in Zunyi City which showed employees standing in the middle of a room being whipped and being forced to drink yellow liquid from a cup.

Jo Taylor, Managing Director at Let’s Talk Talent told HR Grapevine that these managers illustrate a shocking example of leadership that goes against all of her personal ethics and leadership values.

She explains: “Surely the first principle when dealing with someone who is underperforming is to sit down and understand the reasons why, not go straight to punishment. Once we understand that, we can look at how we best manage the situation - be that through formal training, coaching or other support.
