Amazon workers reveal gruelling work conditions

A new swarm of negative media has shrouded the billion-pound internet giant Amazon. Multiple news agencies have reported on an investigation shedding light on 440 serious employee health and safety-related incidents at the company’s warehouse since 2015.

The extent and severity of the incidents varies. One incident reportedly saw a forklift driver in London crash into a column, with the brutality of the accident almost causing the floor to subside following a “lapse of concentration possibly due to working long hours”, the Independent reported.

The Amazon worker who reported the incident wished to remain anonymous over fears of being sacked, according to the Heath and Safety Executive (HSE).

A concerning finding of the report was that employees were forced to work in “sub-zero” conditions at the e-commerce facility in Dundee. And, drivers in Peterborough said that they were forced to wait for eight to ten hours in an unheated room - a fault they claimed “needs to be rectified before Amazon is responsible for road accidents”.
