Hong Kong woman cheated into marriage by scam employer

A 21-year-old Hong Kong woman claims that she was tricked into marrying a stranger while taking part in a 'mock wedding' for work, the BBC reports.

She alleges that her employer told her to play the role of a bride in a fake wedding as part of her training to become a professional wedding planner.

The scam began in May when the 21-year-old woman, who wishes to remain anonymous, saw a listing on Facebook for a make-up artist apprenticeship position which promised a monthly salary of £1,398 (HK$14,000) with free training and development opportunities.

However, her bogus employer convinced her that she could earn more as a wedding planner which convinced her to switch career paths.
