Preconceptions about tattoos diminishing employment prospects are being erased, with new research suggesting tattoos could actually be advantageous for candidates.
According to a study conducted by the University of Miami Business School and the University of Western Australia, tattooed jobseekers are just as likely – and in some scenarios even more likely – to be employed.
The researchers, who surveyed over 2,000 participants, also found visible tattoos had no impact on employment wages or earnings discrimination, suggesting a mindset shift regarding how tattoos are perceived in the workplace.
Michael French, Professor of Health Economics at the Miami Business School and lead study author, believes the “long-held stigmas associated with having tattoos, and particularly visible ones, may be eroding,” especially among younger individuals.
