Thousands of jobseekers' data at risk in PageUp mega breach

Following the PageUp data breach in May, it’s been revealed that the personal information of possibly tens of thousands of jobseekers are at risk.

Several of Australia’s biggest companies who use the recruitment platform, including Government agencies, are urging applicants who have used their careers site to update their passwords and check for any suspicious activity on their accounts.

Whilst PageUp have said that no employment contracts, CVs, tax file numbers or bank account details have been affected, Business Insider Australia reports that much of the data exposed could lead to identity theft, with names, addresses, email addresses, telephone numbers, genders, birth dates, and other details of referees being exposed.

This has prompted PageUp’s customers to move their recruitment processes elsewhere. For example, the Commonwealth Bank has advised on its career site that hopeful candidates should check jobsites Seek and LinkedIn for vacancies.
