Pride Month is here, and many firms are celebrating this by adding rainbow colours to their logos, organising events or participating in parades around the country. However, these gestures can be meaningless if companies forget the reasons why a Pride Month is necessary.
One firm that understand is Virgin Trains, who are honouring the event with the hashtag #Trainbow and adding the pride flag livery to their trains. However, not all customers reacted with joy to the announcement, with one Facebook user questioning why LGBT events should be celebrated.
“Absolutely nothing against our gay community but I do find it bizarre as to why it should be celebrated!” the user wrote in a since-deleted Facebook post. “After all if it wasn’t for the straight people none of us would be hear [sic]. Isn’t that worth celebrating?”
KM, a Virgin Trains East Coast employee behind the Twitter account, decided to explain to the troll why Pride is so important.
