The Treasury has come under fire for hiring the only man on a shortlist that also included four women.
Professor Jonathan Haskel, who is currently a Professor of Economics at Imperial College Business School has been hired to replace Ian McCafferty on the monetary policy committee.
Despite the Treasury claiming the decision was based on merit, many have reacted with anger to the news.
