Facebook implicated in lawsuit for discriminatory job adverts

Facebook has been implicated in a lawsuit alleging its job adverts discriminated against older jobseekers – the Register reports.

The investigation was sparked by ProPublica, who found job adverts posted onto Facebook excluded older workers.

Companies, when buying ad space, are able to select who the ads appear to – for example, you can exclude people from seeing it based on their age or their skin colour, which would not promote equal opportunities.

It has been known to have happened before - a similar inquiry a year ago found Facebook ads being used for racial discrimination in housing.
