A boss who discovered an employee was homeless has paid for him to stay in a hotel until he has saved enough for a deposit.
Adrian Smith, Managing Director of Swift Group of Companies, a logistics firm that operates one of the UK’s largest fleets of courier vehicles, told the BBC the discovery of Joe’s homelessness was “shaming”.
Joe was “turning up for work on time” and appeared “a little bit scruffy” but, Smith acknowledged, “he was [only] working in the warehouse picking and packing”.
Smith continued: “It was . . . shame. And then upset really, was the underlying emotion. How can this be? Not in the 21st century.
