Media focus on living standards and wage requirements – with the National Living Wage set to rise to £7.50 an hour in April – have put pressure on employers not adhering to legal remuneration requirements.
Consequentially, investigations by Channel 4’s Dispatches programme, have made headlines for highlighting high street fashion chains, including River Island and New Look, who use British factories that pay workers less than half the minimum wage.
Dispatches further claims that online retailers Boohoo and Missguided are using suppliers that break employment law.
Using undercover reporters, the Channel 4 programme exposed factories, including Fashion Square, a River Island textiles supplier in Leicester that pay staff under minimum wage.
