Apprenticeship Levy - Free Lunchtime Briefings

Free lunchtime briefings to outline the impact of the new apprenticeship levy are being sponsored throughout the country in January by Crown Workforce Management Systems.

The levy is a mandatory tax for employers with a UK payroll of £3m+ who will be charged 0.5% of their overall payroll bill from April 2017.

Businesses can offset this levy to fund apprenticeship training programmes for new and existing staff but the legislation is complex as the application of training and development under the apprenticeship scheme has been extended. Staff who are not formal apprentices may qualify under the new rules.

Business leaders should ask themselves, do they feel fully informed, prepared and ready for this new tax, said David Bacon, Sales Director for Crown Workforce Management Systems.

“This is a great opportunity to learn first-hand what your organisation needs to do to be ready. There’s an opportunity also to ask the experts so that they can address issues that may be relevant to particular sectors and industries,” he said.

Six, two-hour sessions are being staged at locations across England to enable people to travel to a regional location within a reasonable distance.

They will be headed by SR Education, a private training provider that specialises in delivering high quality and effective training programmes, which are specifically designed to meet the needs of employers and provide positive impact on their business operations.

Lunch will also be provided for all those who attend.

The programme includes presentations around the apprenticeship levy including the background, possible scenarios and implications. After the lunch break, there will be a workshop on how to comply, an outline of benefits and an opportunity to put questions.

The briefings start from 12.00 pm and will be held at:

  • The Mere Hotel and Resort, Knutsford, Cheshire WA16 6LJ, on Wednesday 25 January
  • The Arden Hotel, NEC, West Midlands B92 0ED, Thursday 26 January
  • Holiday Inn Hotel, Manor Lane, Maidenhead, Berks SL6 2RA, Tuesday 31 January
