Budget airline Easyjet has had to settle out of court following the dismissal of a flight attendant for eating a bacon sandwich – The Daily Mail reports.
The dispute has highlighted the importance of having clear, well-implemented company guidelines that are adequately communicated to staff alongside retraining opportunities made available to long-term employees – something HR should take the lead on.
Shannon Gleeson, an EasyJet employee for three years, was sacked on grounds of gross misconduct and theft, after failing to ask for proof of purchase for the £4.50 sarnie her manager offered her.
However, an employment tribunal was told that the budget airline may have had no system for recording missing stock and no ‘black and white’ policy regarding staff being given food.
