A Domino’s employee is claiming that she was fired by text by a line manager that sent the words “you win some, you lose some”.
In November last year, Caitlin McConnell started working part-time for the pizza company, but earlier this week she received a text message from her boss.
According to screenshots on The Daily Mail, it read: “Thank you so much for your energy and helping open the new store, we really appreciate your efforts but I’m afraid to inform you that we cannot accommodate you any longer and wish you the best for the future. Thank you, Domino’s management team.”
This led 16-year-old McConnell to further enquire about the circumstances and the reasons behind the sacking. To which the line manager responded by saying “we didn’t know staff wouldn’t perform to our standards after 5/6 weeks of working” and “you guys don’t know over half the pizzas, I can’t babysit through my whole shift.”
Further on into the conversation the manager wrote “I’m really sorry but what’s done is done” and then proceeded to say “that’s life you win some, you lose some."
The exchange was further escalated when McConnell then asked for a contract of employment. She was told that they don’t have contracts, and so responded by saying: “It’s against the law not to have one within 14 weeks of employment. I’m entitled to a written statement. You should have also given us a week’s notice.”
To which, the reply she received was: “Lol you’re trying to sound clever.”
The exchange was posted to Domino’s Facebook page and resulted in numerous comments from users. One said: “Personally for me, it's the way management has spoken to her via text message. Childish, argumentative, and not professional at all.”
A Domino’s spokesperson told The Daily Mail that “Domino's wouldn't comment on this. We don't know if it's genuine but we'll look into it.”
