Digital transformation is the profound and accelerating transformation of business activities, processes competencies and models to fully leverage the changes and opportunities of digital technologies and their impact across society in a strategic and prioritised way.
This process of digitisation has been taking place in recruitment since the 1990s. During this period companies began moving away from paper based recruitment. Applications- such as the first application tracking systems- paved the way for digital transformation in the way we attract, engage and hire people.
Innovations such as online job boards, have ensured that recruitment’s movement up the digital transformation curve has remained steady. These days, save a few niche sectors, print advertising to attract candidates is all but dead- the 2016 Candidate Attraction Report proved that.
But some paper based processes have persisted. Chief amongst them is the offers and onboarding process. In 2016 it was more common for a company to have a paper based onboarding process than a digital one. There is a very good reason for this- legal compliance. The need for a signed contract meant that- until quite recently- offers and onboarding needed to remain in a world of paper and filing cabinets.
