Google employee sues firm for being too secretive

 A Google employee has taken issue with the firm’s supposed confidentiality agreements, claiming that they violate California labour laws – according to The Information.

The Verge reports that the Google Product Manager has filed a suit alleging that his employer operates a “spying program” on its own employees. The practices are allegedly put in place in order to prevent precious information being leaked, whilst simultaneously stopping staff from discussing illegal activity at Google.

According to The Verge, Google encourages workers to report on their colleagues if they suspect them of leaking information. One of Google’s Co-Founders, the suit does not specify whether it is Larry Page or Sergey Brin, supposedly claimed that any employee who leaked confidential information would be fired.

The Verge reports that if Google is found guilty of the charges brought against them, they could be fined $100 for each of the 12 violations. This is then multiplied by 61,000 employees (the number who work at Google), with the fine doubling to $200 per pay period per employee.
