What we can learn from Yahoo's cyber attack

Yahoo has fallen victim to yet another cyber-attack, which has leaked around one billion user accounts.

The organisation said names, phone numbers, passwords and email addresses were accessed and taken, but not bank and payment data.

BBC reports that Yahoo thinks the hack links to an attack dating back to 2013, the firm "believes an unauthorised third party, in August 2013, stole data associated with more than one billion user accounts.”

However, the breach "is likely distinct from the incident the company disclosed on September 22, 2016".
