As the mad Christmas rush begins, businesses will have to hire more staff to fulfil the demand.
However, it presents many organisations with a conundrum as investing time and money on training temporary staff when they are only going to work there for a limited time is frustrating.
Many firms will just find it easier to cover themselves internally or ‘muddle through’ rather than facing the risk of someone leaving their contract halfway through, which could cause huge disruption to the role, says Matthew Gardner, Associate Director at Ambition UK.
He says that another worry for businesses is the quality of the temp, as they are just there for an interim period and may be unreliable.
