89-year-old man seeks job as he is 'dying of boredom'

Joe Bartley, an 89 year-old former soldier has placed an advert in his local paper asking for a job – because he is "dying of boredom."

ITV News found Bartley’s advert where he is on the lookout for twenty hours a week work. He wrote: “Still able to clean, light gardening, DIY and anything. I have references, old solider, airborne forces. Save me from dying of boredom!”

When the former soldier who was a member of the Airborne Forces and served in Palestine just after the Second World War became dependent on benefits, he was not proud.

He believes there are others like him that end up being side-lined because of their age, despite having bounds of experience and skills to offer.
