Google has confirmed they will be creating 3,000 London-based jobs at new £1billion headquarters in King's Cross designed by Thomas Heatherwick, the man behind the new London bus, the Olympic cauldron, and the Garden Bridge.
There had been doubts the project would go ahead due to Brexit and design disagreements about the new base being “too boring”, but Google’s CEO Sundar Pichai confirmed yesterday the office, capable of holding 7,000 staff, would be built by 2020.
Speaking at Google’s London office yesterday, he said: “Here in the UK, it’s clear to me that computer science has a great future with the talent, educational institutions, and passion for innovation we see all around us. We are committed to the UK and excited to continue our investment in our new King’s Cross campus.”
He added to the BBC: “In our experience as a company, when we have been able to bring people together and operate in an open and connected way it achieves tremendous impact over time.
