Former Facebook employee reveals experiences of Silicon Valley's 'privileged' culture

Antonio Garcia Martinez, former Product Manager for FBX – the ad exchange programme Facebook shut down earlier this year – has dished the truth on working at Silicon Valley.

Martinez, also the author of ‘Chaos Monkeys: Obscene Fortune and Random Failure in Silicon Valley,’ spoke on the latest episode of the Wall Street Journal Media Mix podcast, and revealed that Facebook’s pivot to mobile was what “saved” the company.

He also discussed the culture of Silicon Valley, which is the primary reason he joined the tech world - to write a book like ‘Liar’s Poker’, by Michael Lewis, which gave a fly-on-the-wall account of Wall Street’s culture in the 1980s.

He said: “To maintain this status of extreme income and outcome inequality you have to think that somehow the moral universe conspired to make you a billionaire and the other guy not.
