Mitsubishi rewards healthy employees with virtual currency

How do you feel about having your movements to and from the office tracked by your employer? Not so great, right? But what if you were getting rewarded for demonstrating positive behaviour, such as going to the gym, eating well, and working fewer hours?

A subsidiary company to Bank of Tokyo Mitsubishi MUFJ, kabu.com Securities, is doing just that - according to finextra.com - trailing the use of virtual currency in the workplace to reward employees for their efforts.

The company is piloting mobile geolocation technology, developed by social tech start-up Zerobillbank, to monitor employees’ movements to track when they arrive in, and leave, the office. The system is also set up to automatically credit ‘Ooiri’ digital currency into workers’ accounts for what it considers are examples of desirable behaviour.

Employees who earn the virtual money can spend it in local shops using the technology provider’s ‘Z-Wallet’. Staff can also provide recognition to their colleagues by transferring their own currency to thank them for going the extra mile.
